Australia win by 6 wickets and lift the Champions Trophy for the second time on the trot

It was all back to back then. Watson hit back to sixes off Jeetan Patel to get back to back unbeaten hundreds and take Australia to back to back Champions Trophy triumphs. Spare a thought for the New Zealanders. They bowled very well with the new ball, picking up 2 wickets up front and choking Australia for runs. But Watson and White stitched a valuable partnership and Watson ensured that there are no hiccups even after the fall of White and Hussey.

PRESENTATION:
The Australian team lifts the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 with fireworks in the backdrop and a lot of confetti all around. They are all smiles and why not?
Ricky Ponting: The guys have been tremendous since the end of the Ashes. We have been through ups and downs in the last few months but it is good to know that we are still the number 1 team in the world. I felt really good about my batting form. I got a break after the Ashes and it helped.
The Australians are now getting the Champion Jackets which is a new addition to the Champions Trophy like the Golden Bat and Golden Ball.
Ricky Ponting is the Man of the Tournament for being a consistent run scorer. His nearest competitors were Shane Watson and Daniel Vettori for their all round performances.
Ricky Ponting wins the golden bat for being the leading run scorer in the tournament.
Shane Watson: Shane Bond and Kyle Mills bowled really beautifully and it was a great challenge facing them. It is great to be a part of such a great win. The situation was a lot more challenging and so was the wicket compared to my last hundred.
Shane Watson is the Man of the Match
McCullum: It is a huge disappointment for us. We missed a few key players due to injuries. Probably we were 50 runs short. The Australians built the pressure. We never got a start. Kyle Mills and Shane Bond bowled very well early on, unfortunately we didn’t provide them with enough runs.

Wayne Parnell wins the golden ball for being the leading wicket taker in the tournament with 11 wickets.
