| M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, October 8, 2009 |
Bangalore Royal Challengers: 180/4 (20.0 Overs)
Cape Cobras: 184/5 (19.4 Overs)
Result: Cape Cobras won by 5 wickets
JP Duminy has single handedly taken the Cape Cobras to a win, just the sort of match we needed to get the tournament underway. He was left stranded on 99 in the end. The Royal Challengers will be disappointed with their bowling effort. The spinners were taken for 69 runs in their 8 overs and that is where the game turned. Duminy was supported ably by Canning who built up the momentum in the middle. In the end they cruised home with 2 balls to spare.
Man of the Match: JP Duminy: It was one of my best effort in T20. The wicket was a bit spongy, two paced but we managed to pick up runs of the spinners and that made the difference in the end.
Puttick: We should have restricted them to a lesser total, but our fielding let us down. It was more due to the nerves than anything else but JP’s brilliance made the difference in the end. We wanted to keep calm and build up a good partnership and that worked in the end.
Kumble: I though the total was a very competitve one, but a brilliant innings from Duminy took the gave away from us. We need to tighten up on the bowling. The pitch got quicker in the 2nd innings. Its always nice to play in front of our home crowd, unfortunate that we didn’t end up on the right side of the result today.
