VVS Laxman completed his sixth Test century against Australia and Gautam Gambhir moved towards a double-hundred as India continued to dominate on the second morning in Delhi. The pair cruised through the session unscathed and added a further 97 to India's already imposing total.
It meant two wicketless sessions for Australia, whose last celebration came when Sachin Tendulkar departed in the over before tea on the first day. The mammoth 236-run partnership between Laxman and Gambhir gave Ricky Ponting all sorts of headaches - not only did his bowlers fail to break through, they struggled to create any opportunities at all. After Gambhir was the star of the first day, Laxman took over as the dominant partner on the second. He pulled brilliantly when Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson dropped short and a cover-driven boundary from a Stuart Clark delivery that was not that full highlighted how well he was seeing the ball.
