India beat Srilanka in the finals of Champions Compaq Cup 2009 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo to claim the trophy in front of an audience of 35,000 people. India won the game by 46 runs. Since 1988, Sri Lanka and India have faced each other in 13 tournament finals. The Lankans have won 6 times while the Men in Blue have emerged victorious on 6 occasions now.

Sachin Tendulkar jumps out of his chair with both his hands raised up in joy. He’s still the 16 year old inside who made his debut only 20 years back. Not too long ago, isn’t it? Handshakes taking place, the Indians are over the moon on a lit up night,

Sachin: I’d like to congratulate Yuvi and Dhoni for their special efforts. I think Sri Lanka played some great cricket too, congratulations to them. Few cramps here and there but the body is holding up alright. I’m really glad that we are playing some good cricket for quite sometime now.

Expectedly, Sachin Tendulkar gets the Man of the Match award. This is his 59th Man of the Match award. Incredible numbers, wonder whether he was this good with numbers at school too. Hardly matters, isn’t it. And he walks away with the Man of the Series award as well. 14th Man of the Series award for him. Both of them are World records. Clap Clap!

Yuvraj Singh gets an award for scoring the fastest fifty today.

Harbhajan Singh, the most Stylish player: It’s a big win, it had been long since we had won a series here in Lanka, last one being in 98′. We could have done better with the ball and fielded well, but then these slips keep happening at times.

Sangakkara: We the batsmen should have taken more responsibility while chasing a big total. We were ahead at times but down on wickets. We didn’t think about the past and how the conditions are here under the lights, we batted on the merit of the ball. It would have been great had we gone on to win this…
