Captain Mahendra Dhoni struck a magnificent 124 as India beat Australia by 99 runs in Nagpur to square the seven-match one-day series at 1-1.

Dhoni’s knock came from just 107 balls and propelled the hosts to 354-7, their highest score against Australia.

Gautam Gambhir (76) and Suresh Raina (62) also made hay after India were put in first by the world champions.

In reply, Mike Hussey made 53, but Australia lost wickets at regular intervals and were dismissed for 255.

Dhoni, whose fifth one-day century included nine fours and three sixes, put on 119 with Gambir in a dazzling fourth-wicket stand.

At the end, it was a superb effort by the Indians. They have come back with a bang and even though the Australians were missing their key bowlers, the Indians can certainly take a lot from this win. They batted superbly to start with and the bowlers did the job in the second half as well.

PRESENTATION
Mahendra Singh Dhoni: We lost Sachin early but the kind of start we needed was provided by Gambhir and Sehwag. Yuvraj showed us why he is the best in the middle order although he got out unfortunately. The platform was set for me when I cam out to bat with the runs going at over 6 runs an over. It feels good to score a hundred after a long time. Ashish has been the pick of the bowlers. It was good to see Praveen Kumar getting back some confidence. Ishant did well in the last game. Even the spinners did well as there was not much dew. So overall, I am pretty much happy with the bowling department. This is the 23rd bike, I am looking to take the tally to 30.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the Man of the Match for his fantastic hundred
Ricky Ponting: It was always going to be a hard run chase. The wicket was good though but full credit to India. 300 would have been gettable. It is all square now so we are starting from scratch in the next game.

Final Scores:

India: 354/7 (50.0 Ovs)

Australia: 255-all out (48.3 Ovs)

Result – India won by 99 runs
