India | 838 VIEWS | June 25, 2009 at 8:56 pm![]() Ground Reality and Pitch: |
| The only Test cricket ground in Kingston Jamaica, Sabina Park is home of the Kingston cricket club. This ground is famous for the 365 not-out by the West Indian great Sir Garfield Sobers against Pakistan in 1958, which stood as the highest test score for many years. While former West Indian captain Richie Richardson holds the record for the most runs (418) scored in ODI’s on this ground, Rahul Dravid (116) is the highest scorer for India at the Sabina Park. Although the ground used to boast one of the hardest and quickest tracks in the Caribbean, recent years have witnessed the pitch slowing down drastically despite several attempts to restore it. |

Team Updates: |
| India: The men-in-blue have arrived in the Caribbean promising to put the bad memory of their failure in the Twenty20 World Cup behind them. The amount of cricket played by the Indians has taken a toll on the team members with Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan and Suresh Raina missing out due to injuries. While the captain MS Dhoni made it clear to the team members not to hide any injuries, he would hope for his team to string up a better show after their dismal performance in the T20 World Cup. |
| West Indies: Having lost to Sri Lanka in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, Chris Gayle and his men would look to switch quickly to the ODI format. They would be wary of the fact that India would be looking to hit back hard after having lost to them in the World T20. The West Indies have had a roller coaster show in the current year, with wins and losses coming at an equal number. Although they would look to take advantage of a jaded team India, the Windies have to keep a watch to avoid the inconsistency aspect creeping into their game. |

Sound Bytes: |
| For me, it’s the team first and then the individuals and I’d hope it’s the same with everyone else in the group. If rest is the cure for an injury, a cricketer ought to opt for it rather than let fatigue or niggle become a major setback to him and to the team. If anyone wants to take a break from the game, please let me know or the BCCI: Dhoni underlying that the players have to reveal their injuries |
| India still has quality players to step up and they have a lot of experience in One Day cricket so it’s not a situation where we will say it’s a walkover, it’s never a walkover against India. They still have quality players, they have Yuvraj, Harbhajan, Dhoni and Ishant, a lot of guys to give us a lot of trouble: Chris Gayle saying that they would not take India lightly |
